Low Carb Chocolate, Orange and Ginger Smoothie
Zylo Recipes

Description

Indulge in a luxuriously smooth and creamy smoothie, brimming with rich flavors and wholesome fats. This simple, low-carbohydrate delight is crafted using coconut cream, almond milk, almond butter, a hint of ginger, unsweetened cocoa powder, a touch of sweetener, and a whisper of orange essence. This luscious beverage makes an ideal breakfast or a delightful treat any time of day.

This recipe calls for canned coconut milk, commonly used in cooking. For best results, refrigerate the can beforehand. Chilling allows the thick cream to separate and solidify at the top, which will lend your smoothie a rich texture and increased fat content.

Besides improving the texture, chilling the coconut milk ensures your smoothie is delightfully refreshing. The recipe uses a small amount of orange extract to enhance the chocolate notes. If you prefer, you can substitute fresh orange juice.

Keep in mind that fresh juice has a more subtle flavor, so you may need to add a larger quantity, up to a tablespoon or more, to achieve your desired taste. To minimize carbohydrates, the recipe uses unsweetened cocoa powder. Though a sugar-free chocolate bar could be used, it typically contains more carbs.

In addition, melting a chocolate bar would require more preparation time. The end result is a decadent smoothie that balances richness and refreshment, perfect for satisfying your cravings while keeping your nutritional goals in check. Each sip is a velvety smooth symphony of coconut, almond, chocolate, and a hint of citrus, making it a truly satisfying and guilt-free indulgence.

Instructions

    1.
Scoop the chilled coconut cream from the top of the can of coconut milk and add to a blender. You can reserve the remaining milk for another recipe. Add the almond butter, syrup, 2 generous teaspoons of cocoa powder, the orange extract and ginger to a blender.
    2.
Add the almond milk to the blender. Blend together until smooth and well combined. You can taste the smoothie and adjust seasonings and flavorings as desired, adding more orange, cocoa or sweetener. You may also add water as needed for a thinner smoothie.
    3.
Once the smoothie is blended to your desired taste and consistency, transfer to a large serving glass. You may add ice to the glass if desired for a colder smoothie. Optionally dust with cocoa powder to serve.
