Description

These crispy fried pork balls, inspired by Chinese flavors, offer a delightful combination of textures and tastes. Seasoned ground pork is formed into bite-sized portions, coated in a delicate sesame crumb, and baked until a beautiful golden brown. The result is a satisfyingly crunchy exterior that gives way to a tender, juicy center.

These pork balls are incredibly versatile, equally enjoyable as an appetizer to kick off a meal, a flavorful side dish to complement your favorite entrees, or even as the main course itself. Their savory flavor profile makes them a crowd-pleaser for any occasion. The sesame crumb adds a subtle nutty aroma and enhances the overall crispness of the pork balls.

Baking ensures even cooking and allows the pork to retain its moisture, preventing dryness. While baking is recommended for ease and consistency, alternative cooking methods such as shallow frying or air frying can be employed to achieve a similar result, ensuring the pork is cooked through and the coating is perfectly crisp. To complement the savory pork balls, a sweet and tangy dipping sauce is provided.

The sauce's sweetness balances the richness of the pork, while the tangy notes cut through the richness and add a refreshing element. The combination of the crispy, savory pork balls and the vibrant dipping sauce creates a harmonious balance of flavors that will leave you wanting more. These pork balls are a delightful treat that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Whether you're looking for a quick and easy snack or a satisfying meal, these crispy fried pork balls are sure to please. They are a great alternative to traditional fried foods, offering a healthier and equally delicious option. Enjoy them with friends, family, or simply as a treat for yourself!

Instructions

    1.
Finely chop the cilantro. Thinly slice the scallion and crush the garlic. Add the ground pork to a mixing bowl. Add the cilantro, scallion, garlic and a generous pinch of salt and pepper. Mix together thoroughly with your hands.
    2.
Crack the egg into a small bowl. Beat until smooth and well combined. Add the ground almonds, sesame seeds and a pinch of salt and pepper to a separate bowl. Mix together well to combine. This will be your breading mixture. You will not need too much salt to season the breading as the dipping sauce will be quite salty.
    3.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly oil a shallow oven tray. Divide the pork mixture into 8 even portions and roll each individual portion into a ball. Take one meatball and coat it liberally in the beaten egg. Then roll the meatball in the breading mixture so that it is well coated all over in the seasoned crumb. Repeat this process with each meatball until they are all coated in a layer of breading. If you need more breading, prepare as required, factoring any additional ingredients into your macros.
    4.
Arrange the meatballs across the prepared oven tray. Transfer to the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes or until the pork is completely cooked through. The sesame crumb should be crisp and golden all over.
    5.
While the meatballs are cooking you can prepare the dipping sauce. Add the garlic powder, passata (tomato sauce), tamari sauce, maple flavored syrup and apple cider vinegar to a small bowl. Stir together until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasonings as desired, adjusting your macros for any changes. Serve the dipping sauce with the crispy meatballs.
