Description

Imagine a dish that embodies the brightness of the Mediterranean, a frittata bursting with savory and fresh flavors. This isn't just any egg dish; it's a culinary experience, perfect for a weekend brunch, a quick lunch, or even a light dinner. The base is a fluffy, golden frittata, its richness balanced by the vibrant ingredients woven throughout.

Imagine biting into a cloud of egg, perfectly cooked to a delicate tenderness that melts in your mouth. Each slice is a testament to simple ingredients combined in perfect harmony. Specks of briny capers are scattered generously, each one releasing a salty tang that awakens the palate.

Their assertive flavor is expertly tempered by the sweetness of thinly sliced red onion, which softens as it cooks, lending a subtle sugary note and a delightful crunch. The sharpness of the onion complements the other ingredients, creating a balanced and complex taste profile. Sprinkled throughout the frittata is fresh, verdant watercress.

Its slightly peppery, refreshing flavor adds a vibrant counterpoint to the richer elements of the dish. The watercress wilts slightly during cooking, becoming tender but retaining its distinct character. The tuna, a star ingredient, provides a hearty, satisfying foundation for the frittata.

Its savory flavor permeates every bite, lending a richness that elevates the dish from simple to sublime. Each morsel of tuna is moist and flaky, adding a textural element that is both comforting and exciting. The overall experience is one of balance – salty, sweet, and peppery notes dancing together in perfect harmony.

The frittata is visually appealing too, with its golden hue punctuated by the vibrant green of the watercress, the deep red of the onion, and the pops of color from the capers. It's a dish that pleases both the eye and the palate, a testament to the power of simple, fresh ingredients. Serve it warm or at room temperature, alongside a simple salad of mixed greens with a light vinaigrette.

The frittata is also delicious with a side of crusty bread, perfect for soaking up any lingering juices. This frittata is more than just a meal; it's an invitation to savor the simple pleasures of life.

Instructions

    1.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
    2.
Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl, season with salt and pepper, and beat together to combine.
    3.
Add the watercress, discarding any tough stems, and stir into the beaten egg. Set aside.
    4.
Thinly slice the onion. Heat the oil in an oven-proof skillet over a low/medium heat. Add the onion and capers and sweat gently for 2-3 minutes until tender and fragrant.
    5.
Flake in the tuna and stir well to combine, distributing the filling evenly across the base of the skillet.
    6.
Pour the beaten egg and watercress over the tuna and allow to settle and cook for a few minutes. Once the frittata starts to set around the edges, use a spatula to gently ease the cooked egg away from the skillet sides, allowing any uncooked egg to flow underneath.
    7.
Once the frittata is almost cooked through with a thin layer of liquid remaining on the surface, transfer to the oven to bake for a further 6-7 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown all over. Carefully slide out of the skillet using a spatula to serve.
