Description

This comforting tuna macaroni dish offers a delightful, nostalgic experience, reminiscent of childhood favorites but with a modern twist. Tender flakes of tuna are enveloped in a luxuriously thick and creamy cheese sauce, creating a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. The sauce clings beautifully to the pasta, ensuring each bite is packed with savory goodness.

The dish balances richness with a subtle saltiness derived naturally from the cheese, eliminating the need for added salt and allowing the other flavors to shine through. Its appeal lies in its simplicity and adaptability. The base recipe is a blank canvas, inviting you to customize it with your preferred seasonings and ingredients.

Consider adding a dash of onion powder or garlic powder for a deeper savory note, or a sprinkle of dried herbs like thyme or oregano for an aromatic touch. For a hint of warmth, a pinch of paprika can add both color and subtle spice. Fresh herbs like basil or sliced green onions can brighten the dish with their vibrant flavors and aromas.

For those who enjoy an extra layer of cheesy indulgence, try topping the macaroni with a generous amount of shredded cheese and broiling it until golden and bubbly. This creates a delightful crispy crust that contrasts beautifully with the creamy interior. The dish is perfect as a standalone meal, offering a satisfying and complete culinary experience.

Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to five days, making it a convenient option for meal prepping. Simply portion the macaroni into individual servings for easy reheating. Whether enjoyed as a quick weeknight dinner or a comforting weekend lunch, this tuna macaroni is sure to please.

It's a versatile and customizable dish that brings warmth and satisfaction to every table, offering a delightful twist on a classic comfort food.

Instructions

    1.
In a large pan with rims or a shallow pot, melt the butter over low heat. When the butter is melted, stir in the paleo flour until the heat turns it lightly golden and froth. Next, stir in the chicken broth until the flour mixes into the broth and thickens it. Once the broth is thickened, pour in the heavy cream. Place a lid on the pan and let the sauce heat up until it’s bubbling.
    2.
Once the sauce is bubbling and has thickened a little more, drain your canned tuna completely and add it to the pan. Next, drain any water from your shirataki noodles, and rinse them a least one time under cold tap water. After the noodles are rinsed, add them to the pan as well. Gently stir the ingredients as you break up the tuna into small flaky pieces without damaging the shirataki noodles.
    3.
Let the pan continue bubbling over medium-low heat without a lid. Allow any excess moisture to extract from the tuna and noodles and then evaporate. You’ll witness your tuna helper become a little thinner and then return to its thickened state. Reduce the heat to its lowest setting and add the cheese to the pan. Gently stir until all the cheese melts and finalizes the tuna helper cheese sauce. Serve hot.
