Description

These turkey burgers offer a delightful twist on a classic favorite. Imagine biting into a juicy, lean ground turkey patty, perfectly seasoned and seared to a beautiful golden-brown. But the real surprise lies within: a molten core of melted cheese, oozing out with every delicious bite.

These aren't your average dry, bland turkey burgers. The cheese, carefully tucked inside the patty, not only adds a rich, creamy flavor but also helps to keep the turkey incredibly moist and tender. The contrast between the savory meat and the smooth, melted cheese is simply irresistible.

The searing process creates a delightful crust on the outside of the burger, adding a satisfying textural element to each mouthful. To create these cheesy wonders, start with lean ground turkey, ensuring a healthy and lighter take on the traditional beef burger. Season generously with your favorite herbs and spices – a touch of garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, or even a pinch of red pepper flakes can elevate the flavor profile.

Gently form the seasoned turkey into patties, being careful not to overwork the meat, which can result in a tough burger. Then comes the fun part: creating a small well in the center of each patty and filling it with cubes of your preferred cheese. Whether you opt for a classic mild cheese, a sharp cheddar for a bolder flavor, or even a creamy provolone for a touch of Italian flair, the choice is yours.

Carefully seal the edges of the turkey around the cheese, ensuring that it's completely enclosed to prevent any melty escape during cooking. Sear the burgers in a hot skillet until they are cooked through and the cheese is gloriously melted and gooey. Serve on your favorite bun with your choice of toppings – crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, sliced onions, or a dollop of your favorite sauce.

These cheesy turkey burgers are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, perfect for a weeknight dinner or a weekend barbecue. Pair them with a vibrant side salad, roasted vegetables, or a classic coleslaw for a complete and satisfying meal.

Instructions

    1.
Cover a cutting board with plastic wrap to prevent slipping. Divide ground turkey into 8 equal portions and roll each into a tight ball.
    2.
Place another piece of plastic wrap on top of the turkey balls. Place a sheet tray on top of the plastic wrap and press down evenly to create thin, even patties.
    3.
The patties should be approximately ⅓ inch thick after flattening.
    4.
Stack the sliced American cheese and cut the stack into quarters. Place each quarter of the cheese stack onto one flattened turkey patty.
    5.
Place another flattened turkey patty on top of the cheese, carefully pinching the edges together to seal the cheese inside. Gently reform the patty shape and flatten slightly with the palm of your hand. (The patties will shrink during cooking).
    6.
Heat a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Add avocado oil. Season the burgers generously with kosher salt and garlic powder. Add the burgers to the hot pan and cook for 3-5 minutes per side, until nicely browned.
    7.
Flip the burgers and cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness.
    8.
Microwave broccoli florets in a large bowl covered with plastic wrap for 1 minute 45 seconds on high, or steam until tender-crisp. Serve the juicy lucy burgers on romaine lettuce leaves with a side of broccoli.
